Tourism around Mount Etna
In spite of the mystery and the danger, locals call Mount Etna “Mongibello,” the beautiful mountain.
Tourism thrives as visitors come to ski or to marvel at the display of fire fountains during an eruption.
Various tour operators in Sicily offer helicopter flips over Mount Etna, which offers spectacular views of it's summit.
Another excellent way to see Etna, particularly for a family, or a group of people with differing levels of stamina and physical fitness, is a 4x4 trip!
The guides will show you the Etna landscapes and wildness, endemic flora and geological features explaining the surrounding fragile environment. They can also take people through Etna's lava fields, exploring caves, and walking to reach the "Valle del Bove" Caldera's rim, immense theatre of some major last eruptions.
After the visit of a lava tunnel, the guides will drive you up to 2000 meters, from where you can walk across lava flows of the 2002 eruption to experience the incredible power of nature that surrounds you.

Here are a few images my mom, Samantha, took while she was visiting Taormina in Sicily, about an hour and a half out of Catania.
